Henderson, Caverly & Pum LLP is very pleased to announce that Jonathan A. Grissom is now a Partner and serves as the Chair of our Tax Exempt Organizations Practice.

Mr. Grissom joins Henderson, Caverly & Pum LLP.  Partner Debra J. Vella, Associate Attorney Eric A. Baggett and Senior Paralegal Theresa Delia to form HCPC’s Tax Exempt Organizations Practice.  Prior to joining HCP, Mr. Grissom was a partner at Higgs, Fletcher & Mack LLP, having joined that firm after several years as an associate attorney with Dostart, Clapp & Coveney LLP. Mr. Grissom is also a former extern with the Honorable Rudi M. Brewster, U.S. District Court, Southern District of California.

Mr. Grissom has built a reputation for excellence, integrity and professionalism, with over 19 years of experience handling tax exempt organization matters.

Mr. Grissom represents a wide variety of public charities, private foundations, and other nonprofit organizations, including scientific research organizations, social welfare organizations, professional societies, trade groups, educational institutions and related groups, religious organizations, business leagues, hospitals and related groups, social clubs, and organizations dedicated to animal welfare, environmental protection, human rights, arts and culture, and other philanthropic causes.

Mr. Grissom brings to the Tax Exempt Organizations Group extensive professional credentials. Mr. Grissom is a frequent writer and speaker on issues affecting Tax Exempt Organizations.  He was a co-author of Advising California Nonprofit Corporations (2nd Edition), Continuing Education of the Bar. This two-volume treatise addresses business and tax matters affecting nonprofit corporations.  Mr. Grissom received his J.D. (1997) and his LL.M. in Taxation (2003) from the University of San Diego School of Law, where he served as a Lead Articles Editor on the San Diego Law Review Editorial Board (Volume 34). He received his B.S. in Business Administration (Finance Concentration) from the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (1994).

Hildy L. Fentin has built a local and national reputation for excellence, integrity and professionalism, with over 35 years of experience handling complex Family Law matters.

With a focus on mediation and collaborative approaches, Ms. Fentin employs creative problem solving to reach peaceful resolutions to complex property division, support, and child custody issues. Her process empowers her clients to make informed decisions about their finances and their families without costly litigation.

Ms. Fentin brings to the Family Law Group extensive professional credentials. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and has served in many leadership roles, including President (2014-2015) of its Southern California Chapter. She was the first lawyer in San Diego to be named in Best Lawyers in America for both Family Law and Family Law Mediation (2007-present), and she has also been awarded the designation of San Diego Super Lawyer (2007-present). In 2001, Ms. Fentin received the Judge Norbert Ehrenfreud Family Law Award (Norby) for dedicated and meritorious service to the Family Law Bench and Bar, awarded annually by the Family Law Judicial Officers.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Henderson, Caverly & Pum LLP (HCPC) attorneys Brian Tsu, Robert Mardian and Eric Baggett have just passed the State Bar of California legal specialist exams in two HCPC core practice areas.

Tax and estate planning partner Brian Tsu has passed his California legal specialist exam in California Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law. Tsu currently holds a legal specialist certification in Taxation Law, which will soon make him a member of the small group of California attorneys holding multiple specialist certifications.

Probate and trust litigation senior counsel Robert Mardian has also passed his California legal specialist certification exam in California Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law.

Tax and estate planning associate Eric Baggett passed his California legal specialist certification exam in Taxation Law.
